Solid state coherent transient measurements using hard optical pulses
An isolated and spectrally narrow absorptive feature is prepared via a novel spectral hole burning process in an inhomogeneously broadened optical transition in Eu(3+):Y(2)SiO5. With the narrow feature it is shown that it is feasible to apply complex optical pulse sequences analogous to rf pulse sequences used extensively in NMR.

متن کاملCoherent solid-state LIDAR with silicon photonic optical phased arrays.
We present, to the best of our knowledge, the first demonstration of coherent solid-state light detection and ranging (LIDAR) using optical phased arrays in a silicon photonics platform. An integrated transmitting and receiving frequency-modulated continuous-wave circuit was initially developed and tested to confirm on-chip ranging. Simultaneous distance and velocity measurements were performed...
متن کاملImplementing general measurements on linear optical and solid-state qubits
We show a systematic construction for implementing general measurements on a single qubit, including both strong (or projection) and weak measurements. We mainly focus on linear optical qubits. The present approach is composed of simple and feasible elements, i.e., beam splitters, wave plates, and polarizing beam splitters. We show how the parameters characterizing the measurement operators are...

363 Due to their insensitivity to electrical noise, spin degrees of freedom are widely considered to be promising candidates for storing information1–3. To operate a confined spin as a memory element for quantum information, it is essential to fully controllably turn on and off its coupling to external charge or electromagnetic degrees of freedom so that quantum information can be reliably writ...
